Our Chardonnay block was established in 2007 by grafting two acres of the gentle North facing Shiraz block (planted 1998) with the Chardonnay clone I10V1. Half is cane pruned, whilst the other is spur pruned.

Fruit was hand picked on 14 February and whole bunches were crushed and pressed with a portion of the juice going straight to barrel and the remainder going to tank for settling. The cloudy juice was then transferred to French oak barrels (33% new and mostly 500L puncheons) to ferment with wild yeasts. Each barrel went through at least partial malolactic fermentation. The wine remained in barrel for 4 months before being blended in tank for further aging on lees before being prepared for bottling.

Sensory Analysis
Pale gold with brilliant clarity. The dense cloud of aroma wafts from the glass; lemon myrtle, spiced cashew, apple skin and gun flint. The complexity continues on the palate with the oak playing a supporting role to the rich white stonefruit core and long citrus finish. Classic Yarra Valley Chardonnay drive but filled out with some creamy malolactic notes. Drink 2017-2022.
